Yeast Infection Cures

The question of "what is a yeast infection?" can be simply answered. That is actually caused by a fungus and the disease is commonly known as candidiasis. The infection affects all women, but will usually affect those that are between 30 and 50 years of age. The disease is also commonly seen among those that are pregnant or have a weak immune system.
What is a yeast infection and how does it affect women
The infection will usually affect women at some point in their life. The fungus Candida albicans is naturally present in the vagina of the women. If it doesn't cause pain or doesn't cause discomfort, it won't be felt or seen by them. Sometimes the fungus can multiply and even cause great discomfort to women. At other times, there is a thick discharge something like liquid cheese. In extreme cases, this can cause a lot of pain and irritation. It can also lead to an increase in the size of the vulva and the vagina.
Sometimes the yeast infection can also spread to the partner of those that have the yeast infection. This can cause a swelling on the head of the penis. This is however quite rare. The yeast infection isn't transmitted sexually.
What is a yeast infection and can it be cured
The yeast infection can be diagnosed by the doctor after they have checked the signs and the symptoms of the problem. The disease can be treated with anti-fungal medicines. The course of the treatment usually lasts for 4-5 days. Depending on the severity of the disease, the treatment can be longer. Usually the medication is given orally and intra-vaginally. Sometimes the oral medicines may have some side effects such as nausea, upset stomach, constipation etc.
Medication that is given for intra-vaginal use contains clotrimazole, econazole or miconazole. They cause fewer side effects, but can cause mild stinging and can be awkward for some women to use. The doctor will usually ask the women to restrain from having sex during the period of treatment as this can cause discomfort for the patients.
Girls that are aged between 12-16 years are usually given oral medication. Women that are pregnant or are breast feeding should take the intra-vaginal medication. The oral medication can be passed to the baby when a woman is pregnant or lactating and this can be harmful to the baby.
Even after the use of medication, if the problem persists, then contact the doctor immediately.
